What Happened?
Blackcomb has not received any additional air permits, signaling that the current project scope remains limited to two compressor stations.
What’s the Impact?
Our in-service forecast remains unchanged, though the expected initial capacity has been revised from 2.0 Bcf/d to 1.5 Bcf/d.
Blackcomb is designed for up to 2.5 Bcf/d of capacity; however, our September 2026 forecast assumed mainline completion along with at least three compressor stations to support roughly 2.0 Bcf/d. This aligns with WhiteWater’s historical approach to phased-in service schedules, in which projects typically enter service at about 0.5 Bcf/d below stated capacity and reach full capacity through additional compression.
Currently, no air permit for a third compressor station has been filed. As a result, the expected initial scope is currently limited to the mainline and two compressor stations, supporting only up to ~1.5 Bcf/d.
At this stage, a change to our in-service date would require clear evidence that construction is approaching mechanical completion, which would come in the form of widespread closure of 811 tickets across both the mainline and compressor stations.
It is worth noting that on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, MPLX revised its in-service guidance to Q4 2026. This update may reflect Blackcomb entering service at the 2.0 Bcf/d we originally expected, which is still achievable by the end of the year if additional compressor air permits are approved by the end of the month.
What to Watch for Next:
- Broad closure of 811 tickets across the mainline and compressor facilities
- Any new compressor air-permit approvals
